Creator Profile

Jonathan Perez is the creator of The Pillow Book Chronicles.  Being an artist from since childhood, Jonathan (or Jon, as many people like to call him) has been a fan of many art forms and has experimented with different types of mediums.  His artistic style is something he likes to call "a mess of everything put together," but his artistic influences greatly stem from his affinity for Asian culture and newspaper comic strips.  In 2004, he was thrown into the web-comic world, when he worked with a few friends at a newly formed American manga company called MusaJump to create a very distinct comic book full of different art styles.  His experience with MusaJump allowed him to attend Otakon 2005 in Baltimore, MD where he had the opportunity to distribute his work and meet famous web-comic artists from all over the world.  After sampling the work of many famous web-comics such as Applegeeks, Megatokyo and Chugworth Academy, Jonathan decided to take on the web-comic world himself.  Thus, The Pillow Book Chronicles was born.

Currently, Jonathan is a graduate from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY majoring in Animal Sciences with a concentration in Asian American Studies.  His interest in Asian culture, particularly his own native Filipino culture, has also led him to hold many positions related to helping the general Asian and Asian American community.  He has served as the past Publicity Chair and Vice President of External Affairs for the Cornell Filipino Association, and has served as a National Director for the Filipino Intercollegiate Networking Dialogue, Inc. (FIND Inc.) for District IV, which allowed him to help other Filipino organizations located in New York State (excluding the Metropolitan area).  He has also served as the past President of Asian Pacific Americans for Action, the only pan-Asian socio-political club on the Cornell campus, which helps to educate students in the university about contemporary Asian and Asian American issues.  As a result, Jonathan sometimes likes to use The Pillow Book Chronicles as a vehicle for delivering important messages to the Asian community.

Currently, Jonathan is studying at the University of the Philippines Los Banos in Laguna, Philippines taking up veterinary medicine as a graduate student. When he’s not hard at work studying, he likes to design web-sites, play video games and go out with friends. He also enjoys playing the piano and taking care of his pets back at his home in Queens, NY when he has the chance. He also spends much of his time talking and hanging out with his family and wonderful and beautiful girlfriend Jeannie whenever he has the opportunity to do so.

Jonathan loves reading e-mail and always looks forward to hearing from fans.  Jonathan can be reached at jon [at] jonpinoy.com.
